Two portraits of Malala Yousafzai by Shirin Neshat are now in the collection of National Portrait Gallery, London

National Portrait Gallery in London has unveiled one of the two portraits by Shirin Neshat of Malala Yousafzai, an activist for girls’ education and 2014 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. In this portrait, Neshat has inscribed in calligraphy a poem by the Pashtu poet Rahman Shah Sayel written in Yousafzai’s honour. The second portrait of Yousafzai, sitting at a school desk with an open book, will be exhibited at Birmingham in 2020.
