Ayşe Erkmen at Aichi Triennale
Ayşe Erkmen designed an installation for Aichi Triennale in Endoji shopping street. Focusing on the ropes on which ornaments made by local people hung during the Endoji Tanabata Festival, organized since sixty years, the artist replaced them with pink ones. Erkmen preferred the color Living Coral (PANTONE 16-1546), which was declared as the Color of 2019, and asked the shop keepers to put the bags she designed in this color, to their shops. Designs were made based on each store’s own characteristics. With this approach the artist suggests the reproduction of what is ignored in the community, from art’s perspective. The Triennale can be seen until October 14th.
