Ayşe Erkmen and Sarkis books by Arter
Arter published books titled Ayşe Erkmen: Whitish and Sarkis: Çaylak Sokak in conjunction with the exhibitions.
Whitish accompanies Ayşe Erkmen’s eponymous first institutional solo exhibition opened in Turkey, at Arter. The exhibition brings together a retrospective of her work since the 1970s and her new works produced for this occasion. The book includes an interview with the artist, conducted by Emre Baykal, the curator of the exhibition.
Sarkis: Çaylak Sokak, published as part of Arter Close-Up series by Arter Publications, offering a closer look into a selected work from its collection, focuses on Sarkis’ iconic installation. The piece, named after the street where Sarkis was born and grew up, is included in Arter’s current exhibition What Time Is It? that runs through February 9. It has been previously exhibited at Maçka Art Gallery (1986) and Centre Pompidou (1989). The book features a text where Emre Baykal reinterpreted the work and the photographs taken by Sarkis.
