Batu’s interpretations of elements of decoration are optically multi-dimensional, dynamic and colorful and combine symbols from the cultures of the East and the West. Nothing that the geometric and calligraphic forms and shapes she uses to reflect the world in which we live in, Batu says that she strives to minimize the distance between the world she perceives and the world she creates in her paintings and adds: “I think that this process will also be in constant change in my attempt to go further and deeper in my quest for some form of “truth.”

The contrasts Batu creates on the canvas, the glowing colors she employs that seem to suddenly explode, the seemingly incongruous elements used within a single painting, visibly expand the boundaries of possible choices for the artist while creating a space of perceived freedom the viewer. But, Suzan Batu notes, working within self-imposed boundaries creates the energy which enables her to attempt to proceed to extremes.
