Ebru Uygun

Ebru Uygun’s physical and mental vigor find expression in her work, in which ordinary canvases and paint take on entirely new dimensions. The artist is known for tearing apart each newly-created painting and then reconstructing it in striking fashion. Never confining her art to a single plane, Uygun constantly employs new techniques, allowing us to see how her artistic material interacts both with itself and with its exterior surfaces. As Uygun’s art becomes increasingly monochrome in character, her canvases become a zone of transformation for her paint. Achieving the desired effect through the use of thick paint with the addition of chemicals, Uygun creates a unique oeuvre with her layers of monochrome canvas. Preferring to work simultaneously on several different artworks throughout their creation, Uygun has her own particular rhythm; her artworks reflect and become part of that rhythm, with each piece furnishing clues about the next.
