Özlem Günyol and Mustafa Kunt explore the representation of individual and collective identity, the significance of language, symbols, and information communicated by the media, and their connection to culturally ingrained patterns of understanding. The artist duo is in search of an aesthetic where they dissect issues related to cultural and social belonging, such as identity, nationalism, and boundaries, by separating them into fragments and disconnecting them from their physicality and contexts. In their artistic approaches, they structurally alter and transform the ways in which the questions they pose are answered, employing methods such as translation, coding, deconstruction, classification, addition, and layering to achieve this.
