Jan Zöller’s artistic practice is a dynamic field of exploration where he blends personal experiences with cosmic and theatrical themes and creates a distinctive visual language. His works, infused with a childlike curiosity, employ intense colours and sharp forms to address profound social and economic issues. Through an innovative and playful approach, the artist critiques established systems and questions the role of the individual in late capitalism. Zöller often incorporates grotesque and humorous elements into his compositions, such as trouser legs running ablaze or birdlike figures personifying human traits, evoking a sense of staggering and stumbling that overlaps different temporal planes and heightens the motion and urgency. Working across mediums, such as performance, sculpture, and installation alongside painting, Zöller integrates social codes and tokens like raindrops, trees, birds, legs, hammers, and fountains to construct narratives of solidarity. In doing so, the artist underlines the fragile balance between collective and personal experiences in our intricately interconnected world.
