Âbidin Elderoğlu (b. 1901, Denizli; d. 1974, Ankara) completed Teaching School in 1926 and went to Paris on a scholarship in 1930, where he studied painting at the Académie Julian. During his studies, he worked in the studios of Albert Laurens and Andre Lhote. After returning to Turkey in 1932, he was appointed as a painting teacher at the İzmir Teaching School. In the following years, he continued his artistic pursuits alongside his teaching career. The artist participated in numerous national and international exhibitions throughout his artistic career. His solo exhibitions include Creating the Moon Anew, Dirimart, Istanbul (2017) and A. Âbidin Elderoğlu, Galeri Selvin, Ankara (2005). Among his group exhibitions are Floating Islands, Istanbul Modern, Istanbul (2023); The Collection Exhibition of the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture, Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum, Istanbul (2023) and Dirimart Presents VII: Still Life, Dirimart, Istanbul (2020). Elderoğlu received several awards, including the State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition Achievement Award (1975); the Tehran Biennial Imperial Grand Prize (1966) and the São Paolo Biennial Honour Prize (1963).
