Komet (Gürkan Çoşkun) (b. 1941, Çorum; d. 2022, Istanbul) studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul between 1960 and 1967 in the workshops of Halil Dikmen and Zeki Faik İzer. In 1971, he moved to Paris on a state scholarship, where he attended the Arts Publiques department at Vincent University and studied under Singier at the Beaux-Arts. Starting from the 1980s, he held exhibitions at numerous institutions, including Galerie Hilger, Vienna (1982); Galerie Jean Briance, Paris (1983, 1985); Fondation Art Nationale, Paris (1983); Maçka Sanat Galerisi, Istanbul (1986); Vakko Art Galleries, Istanbul (1989) and Dirimart (2005, 2021). His works are held in prestigious collections such as the Paris Museum of Modern Art, Paris; the Vienna Museum of Modern Art, Vienna; the Copenhagen Museum of Graphic Arts, Copenhagen; the Lausanne Cantonal Museum, Lausanne; Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, Paris and Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, Istanbul. Komet passed away in 2022 in Istanbul.
