Jin Meyerson’s artistic journey is rooted in his fragmented personal history as a Korean adoptee raised by an American family, without official records of his birth. In his practice, art becomes a form of emancipation from the past, situated at the intersection of figuration and abstraction and converging analog and digital distortions to form layered and dynamic compositions. Extending beyond painting into augmented reality, video, installation, and curatorial projects, his work explores displacement, fractured histories, post-colonialism, and identity. Through the interplay of data and paint, Meyerson constructs visual narratives that blur mediums and modes of perception, evoking both personal and collective memory. An early pioneer of Frontier Optics and a central figure in the revival of figurative painting, he has been experimenting with randomisation software since the late 1990s, merging chance operations with painterly gesture. His works reflect a negotiation between algorithmic systems and human expression, offering glimpses into radical futures shaped by memory, technology, and imagination.
