Ayşe Erkmen demands that each and every works by her should be considered as sculpture. Despite the fact that she is known for her big-scale site-specific installations, she minds the aesthetical perspectives and the ways of perceiving her work conceptually and visually. Since she is an established world-wide known artist, she has no a workshop that is understood in traditional ways. Erkmen collaborates with architects, engineers, various technicians and craftsmen. For the Air work, Ayşe Erkmen orders glass pieces created by one’s mouth blow. This thin surfaces makes visible and transparent of human breath. These works were born upon curator René Block’s call to a solo exhibition at 44Moen, Askeby in 2015. Exhibition named By Nature had been composed with sculptures that inspired natural process. In this particular works, Erkmen tries to visualize the breath that is vital for all living creatures.
