Ayşe Erkmen at Grotto Berlin

Ayşe Erkmen’s solo exhibition Emre & Dario is on view at Grotto Berlin, running until 15 March 2025. Originally created for the Iskorpit exhibition at Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt in 1998, the 12-minute colour video with sound distils its elements to a son, a song, and a blank space. Emre & Dario engages with themes of displacement and cultural belonging, reflecting on identity as a fluid construct shaped by individual and collective experience, intergenerational dialogue, and shifting geographic and cultural contexts. Created amid socio-political upheaval in both Turkey and Germany, where reunification brought profound social transformations against a backdrop of rising xenophobia, the work resonates with ongoing conversations about migration and identity. Additionally, on 5 March at 6 p.m., a conversation between Yağmur Rüzgar and the artist will take place at Hansabibliothek.
