The Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (ETAT), one of the leading art festivals in the world and a pioneer of regional art festivals across Japan, features Ayşe Erkmen’s latest installation in and out. Exhibited in Yuyama Village, Matsunoyama, Japan, in and out draws on Erkmen’s previous works in Japan, exploring the themes of cultural preservation and transformation. The installation features the arrangement of debris from homes affected by the Niigata Chuetsu Earthquake and items collected from vacant houses, organised in a garden setting to allow for environmental interpretations. in and out is on view until 10 November 2024.
