Tomokazu Matsuyama at Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center

Tomokazu Matsuyama: Morning Sun is on view at the Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center, New York, from 20 June to 5 October 2025. The exhibition presents new paintings and works on paper by Matsuyama, offering a contemporary homage to Edward Hopper’s iconic 1952 painting Morning Sun. Matsuyama reflects on themes of solitude and existence in a globalised, consumer-oriented world, drawing on his cross-cultural background and observations of contemporary life. At the heart of the exhibition is Morning Sun Dance, a new large-scale painting that engages in a direct visual dialogue with Hopper’s original, exploring how Hopper’s depiction of isolation, light, and space continues to inform Matsuyama’s artistic language.
