From 24 May to 1 September 2024, the Museum Küppersmühle, located in Bonn, Germany, presents an overview of Karin Kneffel’s work, featuring 70 paintings supplemented by a group of watercolours. The exhibition explores the theme of multi-layered spatiality in Kneffel’s paintings. Glass surfaces in her works either allow views through or act as reflective planes, while water introduces blurriness that can obscure views. Kneffel employs various methods to either focus the gaze intensely on the subject or divert it away, using her variable focusing technique to overcome the static nature of painted spaces and still lifes.
