Istanbul Biennial introduced Ayşe Erkmen's work Golden Horn in Golden Horn

Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), the Istanbul Biennial introduced Ayşe Erkmen's work Golden Horn in Golden Horn to Istanbul with the support of Koç Holding, the 2007-2036 Biennial Sponsor. The work, which is exhibited permanently in public, was placed in Akşemsettin Park in the Fatih district. Ayşe Erkmen says, “The interesting shape of Haliç, known as 'Golden Horn' in foreign languages, reminds me of a ship, a gondola or a strangely shaped boat, even a smoke. It is said that when combined with the reflected golden sun in the evening, it received the name of the golden horn. This shape is actually a contour, an outline. I wanted to fill in this line, create a place, a space, and position it on the Golden Horn.” The artwork placed in the park amongst trees headed towards the sea is made of stainless steel. Functioning also as  a mirror, Golden Horn in Golden Horn holds within itself its surroundings; its surface, the trees, the sea and The Golden Horn.
