The collaborative work of Aslı Çavuşoğlu and İnci Eviner at Museo Jumex

The collaborative work of Aslı Çavuşoğlu and İnci Eviner, titled Spirits of Water, meets the audience as part of Çavuşoğlu’s solo exhibition TunState to be held at Museo Jumex between 26 April and 9 July 2023. The collaboration of the artists started during the research trip they took to the Ergene River under the scope of Aslı Çavuşoğlu’s long-term research project tracing how lifeforms adapt themselves to changing natural conditions. The environmental pollution and the system’s negative implications on the environment that the artists witnessed during this research trip led them to embark on a collaborative work together. As part of the TunState exhibition, Genie of Water forms an imaginative flow which is based on the common experiences, different emotions and reflections of the two artists transferred as patterns onto fragile rice papers. İnci Eviner reflects on the Spirits of Water as a healing practice through which the mythological and symbolic language of ancient cultures are transformed through imaginative power. These ink-based shamanic gestures assemble with the images that Çavuşoğlu carries in her mind from her visit to the Ergene River.
