Tony Cragg has been awarded 2026 European Culture Prize, presented annually to individuals and institutions whose work has made significant contributions to the arts, culture, science and public life across Europe. As announced on 30 June, the prestigious award will be presented by Felix Krämer, General Director of Kunstpalast, at Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw on 4 September 2026, in recognition of Cragg’s exceptional contribution to contemporary sculpture over several decades and on a global scale. Reiner Schränkler, the chairman of the European Culture Forum, explained that ‘His works uniquely connect science, nature, material research, and artistic vision. He has profoundly changed international sculpture and inspired generations of artists.’
