A touching interpretation of Dink’s image by Sarkis

Sarkis, who first incorporated Hrant Dink’s smiling image in his Respiro – Nefes installation at the 2015 Venice Biennale, returns nine years later with a poignant interpretation of the now widely recognized “pain-laden” image of Dink in his presentation at the 23,5 Hrant Dink Hafıza Mekânı. In the work, the lifeless body of Dink, captured using a photograph by Ahmet Şık, is transformed by Sarkis’s touch into a symbol of hope, humanity, and healing—as if turning pain into honey. The piece, which deeply moved Dink’s wife Rakel Dink, is preserved in France within the artist’s specially designed “mobile” container—referred to by Sarkis as the Chapel—which houses approximately 30 art-historical stained-glass works.
