Jennifer İpekel

This artist book was published within the context of the exhibition titled Mother, Revolt! by Jennifer İpekel held at Dirimart on 26 May–18 July 2021. Each book, bound with a unique handmade paper, stamped with a different motif and numbered by the artist, features text fragments and poems of Sevim Burak, Gary Snyder, Pietro Antonio Michiel, Henry David Thoreau, William Blake, Robert Aitken, Dale Pendell, an old Babylonian cuneiform musical notes, Myrmecophila, a dia from the collection of Monica Urquijoz, a drawing on Vladimir Nabokov’s teaching annotated copy of Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis, a drawing of Esther Planas, and images of four İpekel works presented separately in the form of postcards. A collaborative effort of six women, Mother, Revolt! is a sapling rooted in Earth, a calling to the sleeping souls to listen to its radiating sounds, with animism in mind, asking the question how the Earth imagines us.
