FRANZ ACKERMANN

Franz Ackermann (b. 1963, Neumarkt St. Veit) studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München from 1984 to 1988, followed by his studies at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg from 1989 to 1991. His solo exhibitions include Multiple Locations, Galerie Templon, New York (2023); Come On!, Dirimart Dolapdere, Istanbul (2017); Mental Maps – Eikones, Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe (2014); Walking South, Faena Arts Center, Buenos Aires (2012); Transit: Again/Always/Forever, Dirimart Nişantaşı, Istanbul (2012); Living and Dying, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Bonn (2009); Living and Dying, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, St. Gallen (2008); Irish Museum of Modern Art (2005); Eine Nacht in den Tropen, Kunsthalle Basel, Basel (2002); Seasons in the Sun, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2002); B.I.T., Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2000) and Portikus, Frankfurt am Main (1997). Selected group exhibitions include Group Exhibition, Mai 36 Showroom, Zurich (2017); Altermodern: Tate Triennial 2009, Tate Britain, London (2009); Biennale d’Art Contemporain de Lyon, Lyon (2005) and Drawing from the Modern 1975–2005, The Museum of Modern Art, New York (2005). His work is held in major museum collections worldwide, including The Museum of Modern Art (New York), Tate (London), and the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Franz Ackermann lives and works in Berlin.
