ISTANBUL, 21.08.2024— Dirimart announces İnci Eviner’s second solo exhibition at the gallery,
Neural Crest of an Island, bringing together the artist’s recent moving image work of the same
title and the installation titled Resound of the Studio. Presenting a boundless visual language
that encompasses historical images, plants, and becoming-animal, the video work explores the
fragile and transient nature of existence. Eviner’s new installation titled Resound of the Studio
takes the artist’s studio as its starting point and revives it in the gallery space.
İnci Eviner’s video works, for which the artist employs an intricate visual language and
continuously enriches them with her artistic approach, examine historical, discursive, and
unconscious processes, challenging the norms that create forms of representation. Her recent
video work, Neural Crest of an Island, inspired by Hayırsızada, where a historic dog slaughter
took place, weaves together the intersection points of history and violence. The work, which
brings together the social and psychic layers of an island through various scenarios, attempts
to decipher the codes of power with figures emerging from an awry fantasy world.
İnci Eviner’s installation titled Resound of the Studio creates scenes for the remaining objects
from her artworks, which were accumulated at her studio over time, to allow them to multiply
with new meanings in the gallery space. In the installation, which focuses on objects that have
played a role in the birth of the artist’s works but have not found their place, Eviner comes to
terms with her own processes of becoming an artist.
Neural Crest of an Island can be viewed at Dirimart Pera from 3 September to 6 October 2024.
