I entered the exhibition “Upfalling Ones” by Özlem Günyol and Mustafa Kunt at Dirimart Dolapdere, which demonstrates ways of thinking about movement in their practice and opens up critiques of systems and institutional structures, contemplating what it means to try to prove one's existence in the face of systems, how these crowds are managed, and which hierarchical layers determine how we move within them. I approached it with questions like: What does movement tell us? What are the connotations of movement? How do the movements of crowds offer proofs of our existence? How can we prove our existence? The exhibition fundamentally focused on breaking down representations of a hierarchical structure that relegates the human element to the background and prioritizes those in power. Seven works, including four new pieces created specifically for this exhibition, were presented in a balanced way. A series of objects were repeatedly reinterpreted to form a whole: public space monuments, carpets, stairs, and high-rise buildings… The viewer, both realizing they are a player in their own life outside the exhibition and being invited to play this game again within the exhibition, with the power dynamics shifted, was engaged with the exhibition.
