No Rain, No Flowers reflects the search for balance and meaning amid the noise of contemporary life.
Dirimart announces No Rain, No Flowers, the second solo exhibition of New York-based artist Summer Wheat at the gallery. Presenting a collection of paintings and sculpture, the exhibition explores personal and cultural shifts in the aftermath of the global shutdown at the onset of COVID-19.
Curated in a manner reminiscent of a garden, No Rain, No Flowers invites visitors to wander through a space that encourages introspection and collective dialogue. It highlights Wheat’s aluminium mesh paintings, where thick acrylic paint, applied through various techniques, extruded through a wire mesh grid and creates richly textured surfaces. Her technique embodies a desire to divide and multiply de Kooning and Seurat, merging abstraction and figuration within a single composition.
Drawing inspiration from historical and contemporary sources, Wheat references Renaissance etchings, modernist abstraction, ancient art, medieval tapestries, European Impressionist café scenes, ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, and social media influencers. Her female figures, inspired by the rise of online beauty trends, influencer culture, and tensions in public discourse, appear as both literal and metaphorical ‘prophets’, reflecting on materialism, self-perception, and growth.
Complementing the paintings, the exhibition features four mosaic sculptures create a space for community and communication within this imagined natural setting. These stone seating areas invite visitors to gather, reflect, and engage in conversation, embodying nature’s call to pause and connect.
Celebrating the untamed curiosity, journey, and wildness of both humanity and nature, No Rain, No Flowers will be on view at Dirimart Pera from 14 March to 13 April 2025.
